The 64Ω Trick

Vyper and several other passive K-array elements let you select impedance — 16Ω or 64Ω. At 64Ω you can hang sixteen of them on a single 4Ω amplifier channel, which means a full distributed zone with no transformer anywhere in the signal path. This is the least discussed feature in the catalog and it is the one that changes a bill of materials.

The honest part

What you give up.

70-volt distribution exists for a real reason and it solved a real problem: long runs, easy per-tap level setting, and a wiring topology any apprentice can extend. When you go 64Ω you are trading that convenience for fidelity and simplicity.

Specifically: you lose the per-speaker tap. Levels within a channel are now set by driver sensitivity and placement, not by a screwdriver on a transformer. If the client is going to want the corner banquette two dB down from the bar, that's a DSP zone and therefore an amplifier channel — so budget the Kommander by zones you'll want to trim, not by the raw speaker count.

You also need to respect cable resistance on long low-impedance runs. At 64Ω the current is low and this is far less punishing than a 4Ω run, but it isn't zero. Do the math on anything past a couple hundred feet.

The pitch that lands"We can give you low-impedance sound quality across the whole floor, with no transformers in the path, on fewer amplifier channels than you'd expect." Then let the consultant work out for himself that you just removed an entire category of component from his drawing.
